New Application Laboratory Expands Leak Testing Capabilities at Pfeiffer

Pfeiffer Vacuum+Fab Solutions, a member of the global Busch Group, has opened a new Application Laboratory at its headquarters in Asslar, Germany.

The facility expands the company’s capabilities for leak testing feasibility studies, customer projects, and application development. It provides additional space, dedicated testing stations, and an environment designed to help customers identify and validate the most suitable leak detection solutions for their applications.

Supporting customers from concept to validation

Selecting the right leak detection technology can be challenging, particularly when products, production processes, and leakage rate requirements vary significantly. The new Pfeiffer Application Laboratory enables customers to evaluate different testing approaches under realistic conditions and gain valuable insights before implementing a solution in production. By conducting feasibility studies and application-specific testing, the on-site team helps customers validate concepts, assess technical requirements, and develop reliable testing processes tailored to their needs.

A broad portfolio of testing technologies

The laboratory offers access to a wide range of leak testing methods, allowing experts to select the most appropriate technology for each application or process. Depending on the testing requirements, helium spraying and sniffing methods, integral vacuum testing, back pressurization (“bombing”) tests, and other established leak detection methods can be evaluated. A broad range of test objects can be examined, including heat exchangers, fuel cell stacks, valves, mechanical components, sensors, medical devices, hermetically sealed products and more. This versatility enables the team to support customers from a variety of industries and application areas.

Professional facilities for advanced testing

The new laboratory features generous space, numerous testing stations, and dedicated areas for different leak detection technologies. Multiple test systems can be operated in parallel, enabling flexibility and efficiency when supporting customer projects. The laboratory’s location directly at the Asslar site also facilitates close collaboration between application specialists, engineering teams, and customers.

In addition to customer-specific testing projects, the Application Laboratory regularly hosts Leak Detection Days. These customer events combine theoretical presentations, practical workshops, live demonstrations, and networking opportunities. Participants gain deeper insights into current leak testing technologies and best practices while exchanging experiences directly with Pfeiffer specialists and other industry professionals.

Investing in future applications

With the Application Laboratory, Pfeiffer continues to strengthen its application expertise and customer support capabilities. The facility provides the foundation for developing and validating leak testing solutions for both established and emerging applications, helping customers meet increasingly demanding quality and reliability requirements.
